Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), a former Army lieutenant colonel, sends THE WEEKLY STANDARD an email commenting on the Marines' video, and has given us permission to publish it.
“I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.
“All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?
“The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.
“As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell.”

Yes!! Love this. I said something milder than this but along the same lines a day or two ago, and got *hammered* by the individual I was speaking with. Nice to know i am not alone in my thoughts.
I still love this man Sarge. He gets it. No sugar coating, just the way he sees things. The way I see them too.

The only thing that upset me was that they filmed the incident. We know when the media gets their hands on anything that can disparage our troops....they will.

Love Col. West! They were totally stupid for filming that, but they grew up with YouTube. Someone on Facebook said they should've eaten asparagus first.

I have said over and over again that folks who don't ever WALK in the shoes of the combat soldier don't get to say SHIT about what goes on "over there." You will NEVER catch me judging anyone who engages in any kind of behavior (no matter HOW depraved it may sound on the 6:00 news "over here") because I do not know what it is like - or what kinds of circumstances "create" scenarios that sound so horrific to "us" back home. I have heard about some of the situations that have led up to crazy scenarios - and quite frankly, I don't know how ANY soldier in a combat situation can keep his wits about him. 'Til I experience it myself - my mouth remains closed, my judgment suspended, and my support unwavering. End.Of.Story.

I think the Marines have handled it well by coming out against these actions. I say let them handle it, as they will.
What I dislike is that for every 3 guys who do this, there are thousands who don't. Many have given selflessly to ensure the safety and well being of the Afghan people. I wish all our detractors would remember that.
