Look at me, I’m smiling……..

Yep, the old sarge woke up happy this morning, other than a couple of old man nature calls, I slept through the night.  That may not sound important to most of you but for the past month or more I have not been sleeping very much.

After yesterdays appointment Dr Green sent me for a chest X-Ray to see if fluid was collecting around my lungs.  I had not improved since my last visit and was so short of breath that I could not walk 10 feet without being out of breath.  To be honest, the old sarge had been thinking he was in the process of dying.  I even had the conversation with Miss Bee, which upset her and for that I am sorry.

It turns out that there was fluid in the right lung cavity and Dr Green arranged to have the fluid drained yesterday afternoon.  They drained 1.35 liter from my lung cavity, the fluid was compressing my lungs making it impossible for me to breathe.  I have not used oxygen since the procedure was completed, I can lay in bed without the drowning sensation, I can sleep.  That’s lots of reasons to make me smile.

Watching Vietnam In HD on History Channel

Last night I was watching the History Channel presentation of Vietnam in HD.  Miss Bee was also watching as much as she could and getting mad by the minute for what we endured and then came home to an ungrateful nation.  She did a rant today maybe you should jump over and read it.

I grew up believing that patriotism was the American way, you love your country and are prepared to do whatever is necessary to defend her………

These are our parents in these posters, what the hell has happened to my country in my lifetime.  How can soldiers returning from combat be insulted, spat upon, hated by their neighbors, nope, I will never be able to answer those questions but I know I did what my parents taught me to do.  For that I am proud.

I am also proud that for the most part our returning soldiers are treated with respect today.  We do have the sick folks from Westboro Baptist Church but they are so far out on the fringe they do not matter, in my day the only person happy to see a soldier come home was his mother or wife.

My very good friend, Roberta, in now on her way to a trip to DALLAS where she will walk another 60 miles in three days, Dallas, man it is hot there.  She went to San Francisco 2 years ago for 60 miles there, Atlanta this year for 60 miles, I say she is the energizer bunny. 

You folks have got to know we are polar opposites, she is a New York School Teacher, stuck on the left side of the political spectrum and then here is the Old Sarge stuck on the right side. (right equals correct).

When I saw this photo on her blog today I knew more people need to visit her place and jump on board supporting her Walk for the Cure.  Thank you Roberta, you are my hero.

I don’t know about you folks but the old sarge is thinking nuff already.  Since I am a Tea Party kinda guy I was thinking nuff on day one of OWS because they seemed to have no purpose from day one.  If they had purpose at day one the idiots that made it to TV interviews had no idea why they were there.  Well we have many days of crapping on the streets, destruction of private property, burning up millions of taxpayer dollars, (Tea Party Rallies had to pay their way) and now chasing kids to disrupt their schooling.

Update from the Old Sarge

 

A few days ago,  10 to be exact I visited with Dr Green and later had another Chemo Treatment.  He said he wanted to move my next Chemo to 4 weeks away as opposed to the planed 3 week interval.  I informed him of the cruise which was 4 weeks away at the time so he added another week giving me a 5 week break.

I had been taking a reduced dose of Chemo but maybe because of the 5 weeks he gave me my full dosage.  We did not discuss that but I know he did based on how my body responded, it has been a rough recovery but I tell you I am better today, much better.  I plan to play Poker tomorrow night and also play Thursday at the dog track, we will see….

I know I have been slipping on my blogging, sorry about that but what can I say.  I was with Chuck and Miss Bee yesterday when I started my uncontrollable cough.  Chuck said something to his mother and I heard her response that “I don’t know how he can even stand up.”  The cough has been the major problem, except that it goes on day and night, so I also have sleep deprivation. 

So, now you know where I have been for the past 10 days, I have visited blogs with out commenting.  I will try to do better.

A soldiers letter………

Dear Angela,

This is by far the most difficult letter I shall ever write; what makes it so difficult is that you’ll be reading it in the unhappy event of my death. You’ve already learned of my death. I hope the news was broken to you gently. God, Angie, I didn’t want to die. I had so much to live for; you were my main reason for living. You’re a jewel; a treasure. Please don’t hate the war because it has taken me. I’m glad and proud that America has found me equal to the task of defending it. Vietnam isn’t a far off country in a remote corner of the world. It is Sagamore, Brooklyn, Honolulu, or any other part of the world where there are Americans. Vietnam is a test of the American spirit. I hope I have helped in a little way to pass the test. The press, the television screen, the magazines are filled with the images of young men burning their draft cards to demonstrate their courage. Their rejection is of the ancient law that a male fights to protect his own people in his own land. Does it take courage to flaunt the authorities and burn a draft card? Ask the men at Dak To, Con Thien, or Hill 875: they’ll tell you how much courage it takes.

Most people never think of their freedom; they never think much about breathing either, or blood circulating, except when these functions are checked by a doctor. Freedom like breathing and circulating blood is part of our being. Why must people take their freedom for granted? Why can’t they support the men, who are trying to protect their lifeblood- Freedom?

WE MUST DO the job that God set down for us. It’s up to every American to fight for the freedom we hold so dear. We must instruct the young in the ways of these great United States; we mustn’t let them take these freedoms for granted.

I want you to go on to live a full, rich, productive life, Angie. I want you to share your love with someone. You may meet another man and bring up a family. Please bring up your children to be proud Americans. Don’t worry about me, Honey; God must have a special place for soldiers. I’ve died as I’ve always hoped, protecting what I do hold so dear to my heart.

We will meet again in the future. We will. I’ll be waiting for you that day. I’ll be watching over you Angie; and if it’s possible to help you in some way, I will. Feel some relief with the knowledge that you’ve filled my short life with more happiness than most men know in a lifetime.

The inevitable? Well, the last one: I love you with all my heart; and all my love for you will survive into eternity.

The conversation then drifted to Netanyahu, at which time Sarkozy declared: “I cannot stand him. He is a liar.” According to the report, Obama replied: “You’re fed up with him, but I have to deal with him every day!”

We have a president that has conducted foreign policy in a manner that makes Herman Cain look good, but his lack of qualification to be president of the US are so weak he is not smart enough to avoid stupid mistakes.

Blog Blast for Peace

My generation went to war in Vietnam, 58,000 of my brothers and sisters have had their names inscribed on a black granite wall. As sad as that is another 140,000 of my generation have perished as a result of Agent Orange Exposure and Suicide due to PTSD. What did we gain?

Will I see a peaceful world in my lifetime, I doubt it, but I have two fine young grandsons, please do not let them go where I have been, please do not let them see what I saw…..

The wacky world of politics, us v them…..

Wow, did you see how quickly the your news reports were full of allegations of Herman Cain being guilty of Sexual Harassment.

The left wing blog, Politico, broke the story on 10/30/11 and the story snowballed within hours….

Co-host George Stephanopoulos, whose former boss, Bill Clinton, repeatedly faced sexual harassment claims, touted, "And this morning, bombshell blast. Major allegations against front-runner Herman Cain. Two former female colleagues accuse him of sexual harassment."

Reporter Jan Crawford began by oddly focusing on Cain's abortion position: "Now that he's a front-runner, he's facing increased scrutiny, especially when opponents question whether he would support abortion in some cases, like in the case of rape or incest."
Crawford also connected the allegations, linking, "...This reminds me of similar allegations that were levied just 20 years ago against Justice Clarence Thomas who, of course, was accused of sexual harassment himself."

Only NBC's Chuck Todd on Today made sure to specifically note: "And we need to emphasize that NBC News has not independently confirmed these allegations."

Suppose we take a look at history……..

If the Chief Executive Officer of the National Restaurant Association, at the time one of the top 25 trade associations in Washington, D.C., were sexually harassing someone, that someone could get a lot of money.  It seems to me that a settlement of an amount of less than 6 figures is small in contrast to the $850,000 the Bill Clinton shelled out on his non-story.

Herman Cain is correct, he has a big target on his back, he has denied these charges,  I can guarantee you if you think the MSM fears and hates a conservative woman, ie Sarah Palin, is no comparison to how they feel about a conservative, successful black man.

OH NO, I am having visions of Anita Hill and Justice Thomas, another “High Tech Lynching”

 

"The one thing the left cannot bear is an uppity conservative black man leaving the liberal plantation," Bozell said. "They cannot stand that. They look on him with contempt just as to this day they look on [Supreme Court Justice] Clarence Thomas with contempt and still do, although he probably one of the wisest jurists we've ever had.
"There's never going to be respect for Clarence Thomas and there's never going to be respect for Herman Cain because they left the plantation," Bozell said.
