I suppose this post is here because I went back into Chemo treatment yesterday. This current round of the cancer fight is approaching three years now. Am I pissed off, you bet, but that will not change my condition, life is precious, so you keep up the fight.
My treatment went well, I am experiencing some shortness of breath and will have an Echo Doppler of my heart today in an attempt to find the cause. I have had no ill effects from the treatment so far….
What the hell were they thinking, this crap would kill a tree that was a 100 years old, and they did not consider the effect it would have on the human body.
Studies of veterans who served in South Vietnam during the war have increased rates of cancer, nerve, digestive, skin and respiratory disorders. Veterans from the south had higher rates of throat cancer, acute/chronic leukemia, Hodgkin's lymphoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, prostate cancer, lung cancer, soft tissue sarcoma and liver cancer. Other than liver cancer, these are the same conditions the US Veteran's Administration has found to be associated with exposure to Agent Orange/dioxin, and are on the list of conditions eligible for compensation and treatment.
While in Vietnam, the veterans were told not to worry, and were persuaded the chemical was harmless. After returning home, Vietnam veterans began to suspect their ill health or the instances of their wives having miscarriages or children born with birth defects may be related to Agent Orange and the other toxic herbicides to which they were exposed in Vietnam.
NOT TO WORRY, IT IS HARMLESS………
The following are list of health issues I have suffered, all related to Agent Orange.
- Acute and Subacute Peripheral Neuropathy
A nervous system condition that causes numbness, tingling, and motor weakness.
Neuropathy in both feet since 2005, live with it.
- Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2)
A disease characterized by high blood sugar levels resulting from the body’s inability to respond properly to the hormone insulin.
Medicated since 2004.
- Ischemic Heart Disease
A disease characterized by a reduced supply of blood to the heart, that leads to chest pain.
Pacemaker implanted in 2001.
- Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
A group of cancers that affect the lymph glands and other lymphatic tissue.
R-Chop Chemo in 2009, followed by 15 radiation treatments
- Prostate Cancer
Cancer of the prostate; one of the most common cancers among men.
My prostate was removed in 2001. Followed with 36 radiation treatments.
- Respiratory Cancers
Cancers of the lung, larynx, trachea, and bronchus.
Respiratory cancer resulted in the removal of the upper right lobe of my lung. This cancer is now in the bone in my back and that is why I am presently being treated.
Other than that it has proven to be harmless to me personally.
Air Force records show at least 6,542 spraying missions took place over the course of Operation Ranch Hand. By 1971, 12 percent of the total area of South Vietnam had been sprayed with defoliating chemicals, at an average concentration of 13 times the recommended USDA application rate for domestic use. In South Vietnam alone, an estimated 10 million hectares of agricultural land were ultimately destroyed. In some areas, TCDD concentrations in soil and water were hundreds of times greater than the levels considered safe by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Hey folks, we got to come home, what about the Vietnamese people, they live there, they were at home…..
40 years after it was sprayed, Agent Orange continues to cause deaths, cancers, leukemia and birth defects. The Vietnamese Red Cross estimates that there are one million victims.

It really makes me sad to see all the victims. We used to think the skin was an effective barrier against toxins. I remember being taught that in school. Now we know better.
I hate that we have learned so much the hard way. With the lives of our soldiers and our children.
i love you honey...
hugs, bee

That was some wicked stuff, sarge. Keep up the fight. I know you can (and will) do it!
That is another one of the outrages that our government has perpetrated on our military forces. How sad, how widespread, how true and how terrible. First you serve with loyalty, dignity and pride - and then you are rewarded with illness. I am so sorry Sarge.
My ex-bf served in Vietnam and his son was born with severe birth defects.
Welcome Home Indeed~Despite a touch of Diabetes 2, I am a healthy 62 for now....but the clock is always ticking.
What Empress Bee said. We love you too.
Have a terrific day kicking cancers ass. Hugs. :)
Be advised PHR, mine started at age 63 with Prostate Cancer. Get regular checkups.
Yes, it's downright tragic the impact AO has had on U.S. Veterans and the Vietnamese. See http://makeagentorangehistory.org
Sarge,
I am so sorry. I don't know if I mentioned before, but I lost an old and dear friend a few years ago. He had some form of brain cancer. He loaded the barrels of agent orange on helicopters. He died before he turned 60 and they never could get the military to say it was service related. Pure and simple it is a crime. So wrong my heart almost can't bear to think about it. I know you are strong and will kick ass, but it's just not fair.
Sending as may hugs as you can handle today. Much love and thanks.

Sarge... there are no words. It's wrong on so many levels.
Please know your sacrifice then and your sacrifice now...are deeply appreciated by so many of us. You are loved.

This makes me so sad, for many reasons.
Sending you warm hugs and lotsa love, my friend....
I am sorry you are going through this.
I am just so sorry.
Seeing the image of spraying above the trees and the children in wheelchairs. They knew what they were doing. But they did it anyway.
Take care, Sarge. I hope you are feeling better today.
What were they thinking seems to continue. I swear, do they make you check your brain when you get to washington
God knows what-all we were ingesting...every time you took a sip of that green bug juice, it looked like there was an oil slick on it. Hang in there, SARGE.
love you sarge. it's all shitty; i'm so sad about it. :[ :[
right now the song i posted on my blog is playing, the lyrics remind me of you:
Farther along we'll know all about it
Farther along we'll understand why
So, cheer up my brothers, live in the sunshine
We'll understand this, all by and by
Tempted and tried, I wondered why
The good man died, the bad man thrives
And Jesus cries because he loves 'em both
We're all cast-aways in need of rope
Hangin' on by the last threads of our hope
In a house of mirrors full of smoke
Confusing illusions I've seen
So much more to life than we've been told
It's full of beauty that will unfold
And shine like you struck gold my wayward son
That deadweight burden weighs a ton
Go down into the river and let it run
Wash away all the things you've done
Forgiveness alright
Farther along we'll know all about it
Farther along we'll understand why
So, cheer up my brothers, live in the sunshine
We'll understand this, all by and by
