Within a month, the Marine Corps will begin fielding new groin protectors that can stop high-velocity shrapnel and should reduce the number of devastating genital-related injuries Marines have sustained from improvised explosive devices, according to Marine officials.

Considering IEDs usually explode upward from below I think this is an idea long overdue - heck, full body armor would be a good idea as far as I'm concerned but probably would be hard to maneuver in.
You mean to tell me that they never had protection for that wonderful area? I bet the Generals were always protected.

It's a good idea. It will help prevent dirt and debris from embedding in the area. I'm sure it will be standard for everyone soon.
Besides, now the Marines can say they have balls of steel.
