Historically the US Navy names ships to honor individual. Naturally the more important the person, the bigger the ship. Here are three examples that demonstrates this system.
USS RONALD REAGAN sails by the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor. Under orders to 'Man the Rail' they stand shoulder to shoulder, around 4.5 acres.
USS BILL CLINTON with it’s full complement of one F-16, sorry, can not launch it from the 100 foot deck.
USS BARACK OBAMA
