US TROOPS ORDERED NOT TO WARE UNIFORMS IN PUBLIC….
US troops in Germany have been banned from wearing their military uniforms in public in the wake of the Frankfurt Airport shooting that left two American airmen dead and two seriously injured. read more
What the old sarge thinks: This brings back old feelings for me, while stationed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in the early 1970’s it was suggested that we not wear our uniforms when off post. That was a volatile time in the USA, Vietnam war, demonstrators, etc…….. Being a soldier was not the most respected profession, we were often insulted and it would just make my blood boil.
I was drafted into the service and liked my life, hence by the 1970’s I had reenlisted twice. Today’s soldiers are all volunteer, they wear the uniform because they want to, they have pride in what they are doing along with love of their country. In my humble opinion Military Service is an honorable profession, one that commands respect from those that are served.
We have continuously had soldiers stationed in Germany since 1944, I was one of those soldiers in 1961. Even at that time you could sense some resentment from the younger generation, the older folks respected us and appreciated what we did. Today that younger generation is the older folks and see us as invaders, not protectors.
Europe is near an eruption of violence, serious violence, ie, Greece and other countries. Maybe it is time to bring our soldiers home, the military is stretched thin with two wars and near a third with our intervention in Libya. We have asked our service men and women to repeatedly deploy to a war zone, some have been there for 8 deployments. Let me tell you, once you complete a combat assignment, there is mental anguish when you have to go back.
I think it is time for the major part of USA Europe to come home, those 10’s of thousands could take the pressure off the rest of the services.

I agree, Sarge. They could guard our borders which would do wonders for our country...keeping out the freeloaders and all the others who would do us harm.
God bless them all Sarge. When we traveled to Florida we saw lots of service men and women. We thanked each and every one of them for their service. Every one of them.
Have a terrific day Sarge. Big hug. :)
Good post, Sarge - allow me to expand on my blog.

It is time for our troops to come home
i agree.
i have a few friends who've been to Germany, they seemed to really like it, but that is scary news. :[
i mean, were stationed in germany.
So sad that wearing your uniform in public could be our soldiers in danger. When will we learn proper respect?
Hugs for a wonderful weekend,
Bobbi
I'm going to agree with you 100% on this one. If it's come to the point where our servicemen and women have to hide their uniforms in order to be safe then they need to be brought back home where they aren't going to be shot at.
The world is going to hell in the proverbial handbasket it seems.
I agree with you, Sarge.
We must not allow this to turn into another Vietnam. Our Nation has brought so much pain to one generation of Warriors...didn't we learn this should not be done.
With each passing day our world is become a little bit more sad. It's so important to stay focused on our blessings...especially those who have served in the past and those who serve today!
Great post!

I think it about time we let Europe and the rest of the world defend itself. By the way, I visited Vancouver, Canada in uniform (and on my uniform I had the Vietnam and National Defense Service Ribbons) in early 1966 with two shipmates and we spent much of our time getting dirty looks and ignoring would-be heroes with their snotty remarks. Not all Canadians or course, many were very nice, but still I've never visited Canada since.
