Black Tea in Houston

Updated: Tuesday, 18 Jan 2011, 9:57 PM CST

HOUSTON - It's a tea party unlike any Houston, and perhaps the entire country, has ever seen. The first Black Tea Party held its inaugural meeting Tuesday night in the Third Ward. Organizers of the Crispus Attucks Tea Party are quick to point out that anyone is welcome and it's not a political party.

Their mission statement reads in part:
"To build a strong base of conservative Black entrepreneurs, elected officials and constituents that provide Black conservatives a viable way to express and implement their conservative values politically."

Co-founder Anita Moncrief says the party is also looking to overcome stereotypes.
"We're trying to break the stereotype that the tea party is racist," said Moncrief.

In interest of full disclosure, I am a tea party member, you know that bunch of rednecks and old farts, yep, that’s me.  We have been called raciest, bigots, homophobes, and assorted other adjectives.  Maybe this will help to squelch this argument.

Now you're talking Sarge. Good for them. I know lots of wonderful black people. Many of them are conservatives. This tea party movement has only begun.

Have a terrific day. :)

Good for them! People in this country are so quick to cry "racist!" at the least little thing and that's what keeps racism alive, they just haven't figured that out yet.

Strong brew! Love it...
~~~I'm not real sure if I like this idea - I get it sort of - but I'd love for the conservative black folks to show up for all tea party activities and not segregate themselves. Maybe their way is better, who knows. I'm in their corner, whatever.
~~~Blessings~~~

I'm wondering why they just don't show up at regular Tea Party events? I mean, why not?
