A Wing And A Scare

It’s actually difficult to comprehend how we’ve arrived at this moment. The same liberals who shrieked bloody murder at the very idea of waterboarding Islamofascist terrorists are okey-dokey with the idea of taking dirty pictures of Grandma Kettle and copping a feel off Great-Aunt Ida? During the George W. Bush administration, liberals were apoplectic over the idea that we were denying al-Qaida terrorists bacon-free Happy Meals. The same folks are now telling us to live with being fondled by some guy named Mel with an embroidered badge, mustard stains on his high-water pants and a drawer full of rejection letters from the local sheriff’s department.

Airport security

capt.a2c0a328c8164b75923dfb6d6f1ecbad-a2c0a328c8164b75923dfb6d6f1ecbad-0

An unmanned vehicle helps secure the runway at Ben Gurion air port near Tel Aviv, Israel, Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010. Senior Israeli airport official Nahum Liss said Tuesday screening procedures at airports around the world are inadequate, calling Israel's heavily fortified international airport the best protected in the world.

"In the U.S., profiling is a bad word," Liss said, but he defended the practice, saying it is done by "intelligent, motivated" university students who served in Israel's military and can identify passengers who could pose a potential risk.

FINALLY - A great alternative to body scanners at airports . . .

The Israelis are developing an airport security device that
eliminates the privacy concerns that come with full-body
scanners at the airports.

It's a booth you can step into that will not X-ray you, but will
detonate any explosive device you may have on you. They
see this as a win-win for everyone, with none of this crap about
racial profiling. It also would eliminate the costs of a long and
expensive trial. Justice would be swift. Case closed!

Just think: You're in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled
explosion.

Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system . . .
"Attention standby passengers - we now have a seat available on
flight number XXXX.  Shalom!"

Our economically challenged president

Neil_Cavuto

Recently Neil Cavuto discussed the President pontificating about how we can’t afford tax cuts for the”rich”….. The same “rich” that provide jobs to Americans.

The president is going on about how this will cost the country 700 billion dollars.

How can something that we haven’t collected “cost” us 700 billion dollars?

How can a tax law that is already in place be called a tax cut?

How many jobs will be lost as a result of not continuing the current tax law?

Did the president skip his econ classes at Harvard?

Does he even have a clue????

Do the people who elected this dufus still believe his BS??

Barack Obama/Air force One

Military Pegs Hourly Air Force One Cost at $181G, as Obama Sets Travel Record

The average American could buy a house for the amount of money it takes to run Air Force One every hour.

The U.S. military has provided an updated estimate on that cost, first published by a taxpayer watchdog group and confirmed by FoxNews.com, and the number is staggering -- $181,757 per hour. That's the price tag for shuttling around President Obama, who, as it turns out, has spent more days abroad in his first two years than any other president.

What the Old Sarge thinks:  I got to tell you that I think Airforce One is a necessary means of safe transportation for the president, however, as we are on our way to 14 trillion dollar debt I am personally offended by excessive waste of taxpayer dollars.

National Debt as of this morning

$13,778,775,000,000 (increased by 5 million as I collected the data)

Air Force One

The White house released the photo of Air Force One taken over New York. Yep, THAT photo, the one that cost $328,835, and caused wide spread panic. So I'm sure everyone's asking the question, "what kind of picture does $328,835 buy you." Well apparently not much.

 Air Force One_photoshopped

Now you might be wondering if the White House could have just photoshopped a picture of Air Force One by the Statue of Liberty. Well here's a picture of the Statue of Liberty that was photoshopped to look like Air Force One was there. In my opinion it looks a whole lot better, and it cost $328,835 less.

A Boeing 747 that can be used as Air Force One and an F-16 fighter jet fly unusually low en route to Manhattan. The photo-op, for some New Yorkers, evoked memories of the 9/11 attacks. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he was "furious" that he was not notified of the event that was authorized by the White House's military office director, who later resigned because of the controversy. and certainly we should put extra effort in the real dangerous folks

After all, with nude photography sessions and stories of nuns and 3-year-olds being groped, TSA has made it clear it has crossed every line of common decency - even laws governing sexual assault.

The Obama administration is engaging in a classic form of  covering their bureaucratic asses. Should another Islamic extremist board an aircraft while TSA agents are busy grabbing sippy cups from toddlers and confiscating fingernail clippers from Marines, the agency plausibly can claim there was nothing more it could have done.

The term “enhanced security” should be modified to “enhanced groping.”

George W Bush, do you miss him yet????

I love it, this man is ok with himself, very confident, and history will reflect that he was the right man at the right time, (that is my opinion and I am sticking to it, you may not agree and that is ok, you are wrong) yes, I miss him……….

The photo above is at the Reagan Library where he appeared with Nancy Reagan to promote his book.  He took questions from the audience and also explained his latest domestic agenda, washing the dishes….

"SOON TO BE GONE"

image00111

image00222

I am a doctor specializing in the Emergency Departments of the only two military Level One-Trauma Centers, both in  San Antonio ,  TX  and they care for civilian Emergencies as well as military personnel.    San Antonio  has the largest military retiree population in the world living here.  As a military doctor, I work long hours and the pay is less than glamorous.  One tends to become jaded by the long hours, lack of sleep, food, family contact and the endless parade of human suffering passing before you. The arrival of another ambulance does not mean more pay, only more work.  Most often, it is a victim from a motor vehicle crash.

image00333

Often it is a person of dubious character who has been shot or stabbed.  With our large military retiree population, it is often a nursing home patient.  Even with my enlisted service and minimal combat experience in  Panama , I have caught myself groaning when the ambulance brought in yet another sick, elderly person from one of the local retirement centers that cater to military retirees.  I had not stopped to think of what citizens of this age group represented.

image00444

I saw 'Saving Private Ryan'.  I was touched deeply.  Not so much by the carnage, but by the sacrifices of so many.  I was touched most by the scene of the elderly survivor at the graveside, asking his wife if he'd been a good man.  I realized that I had seen these same men and women coming through my Emergency Dept. and had not realized what magnificent sacrifices they had made.  The things they did for me and everyone else that has lived on this planet since the end of that conflict are priceless.

image00555
Situation permitting, I now try to ask my patients about their experiences.  They would never bring up the subject without the inquiry.  I have been privileged to an amazing array of experiences, recounted in the brief minutes allowed in an Emergency Dept. encounter.  These experiences have revealed the incredible individuals I have had the honor of serving in a medical capacity, many on their last admission to the hospital.

image00666

There was a frail, elderly woman who reassured my young enlisted medic, trying to start an IV line in her arm.  She remained calm and poised, despite her illness and the multiple needle-sticks into her fragile veins.  She was what we call a 'hard stick.'  As the medic made another attempt,  I noticed a number tattooed across her forearm.  I touched it with one finger and looked into her eyes. She simply said, ' Auschwitz '.  Many of later generations would have loudly and openly berated the young medic in his many attempts.  How different was the response from this person who'd seen unspeakable suffering.

image00777
Also, there was this long retired Colonel, who as a young officer had parachuted from his burning plane over a  Pacific Island  held by the Japanese.  Now an octogenarian, he had a minor cut on his head from a fall at his home where he lived alone.  His CT scan and suturing had been delayed until after midnight by the usual parade of high priority ambulance patients.  Still spry for his age, he asked to use the phone to call a taxi, to take him home, then he realized his ambulance had brought him without his wallet.  He asked if he could use the phone to make a long distance call to his daughter who lived 7 miles away.  With great pride we told him that he could not, as he'd done enough for his country and the least we could do was get him a taxi home, even if we had to pay for it ourselves.  My only regret was that my shift wouldn't end for several hours, and I couldn't drive him myself.

image00888

I was there the night M/Sgt Roy  Benavidez came through the Emergency Dept. for the last time.  He was very sick.  I was not the doctor taking care of him, but I walked to his bedside and took his hand.  I said nothing.  He was so sick, he didn't know I was there. I'd read his Medal of Honor citation and wanted to shake his hand.  He died a few days later.

I remember these citizens

and still groan when yet another ambulance comes in, but now I am much more aware of what an honor it is to serve these particular men and women.

image0171717

I have seen a Congress who would turn their back on these individuals who've sacrificed so much to protect our liberty.  I see later generations that seem to be totally engrossed in abusing these same liberties, won with such sacrifice.

image0181818

It has become my personal endeavor to make the nurses and young enlisted medics aware of these amazing individuals when I encounter them in our Emergency Dept.  Their response to these particular citizens has made me think that perhaps all is not lost in the next generation.
image0191919
My experiences have solidified my belief that we are losing an incredible generation, and this nation knows not what it is losing.  Our uncaring government and ungrateful civilian populace should all take note.

We should all remember that we must 'Earn this'.
