I voted for Charlie for Governor but now…..

Crist Sidesteps Question on Party Caucus Choice

225px-Gov_charlie_crist

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist remains coy about which political party he would caucus with if he emerged the victor in the state’s three-way contest for the U.S. Senate.

Crist, who switched from Republican to independent this year when his chances appeared slim to beat former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio for the Republican, declined to commit during an interview Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

However, Roll Call noted that Crist’s “shifts on key policies since leaving the GOP could indicate an intention to pursue Florida’s Democratic vote and to join forces with the Democrats” if he defeats Rubio and Democratic Rep. Kendrick Meek in November.

Noting that the caucusing question is moot unless he wins, Crist said, “I’ve got to work very hard to make sure I achieve the trust and support of my fellow Floridians to continue to be a public servant for them. I think they know the way I’m going to go: I’m going to go the way that’s best for them, and I sincerely mean that — and that’s very important. I don’t have to say whether I’m going to caucus with the Democrats or Republicans.

“I think the important thing, if I have the honor of winning, is asking tough questions,” he said. “We’ll make a decision thereafter.”

Crist also was asked about apparent flip-flopping on the new healthcare. Before bowing out of the GOP primary, he had said he would have voted against it had he been a senator then. Last week, he said he would have supported it but then backtracked.

On Sunday, he said on the CNN show that he would have opposed the overhaul but now wants to work to “fix” it.

I Know where Marco Rubio will caucus…….

I also know who the old sarge will support for the US Senate.

RESTORING HONOR IN AMERICA

So, what do you think?  Is Glenn Beck an idiot, a hate monger, that is what my friend Matt Man would call him.  But on the other hand anyone that does not agree with Matt Man is an Idiot or hate monger, at least in his humble opinion.

Is it possible that Glenn Beck is just an American who believes in what he is doing and hopes to bring sanity back into America?

Did Martin Luther King Jr have a dream for black people or was his dream for America?

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

"I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood."

"They have a right to rally. But what they don't have the right do is distort what Dr. King's dream was about," the Rev. Al Sharpton declared Friday. He called the tea party assembly an anti-government action and has organized a counter rally also near the site of King's historic speech.

“I am attending this rally to help reclaim America,” she told “Good Morning America’s” Ron Claiborne today from Capitol Hill. “I’m joining Glenn to talk about faith, hope, charity, honor. Those are things that America needs to reclaim. Our children need to remember to love each other how to honor each other, their parents, God and their neighbors. I agree with Glenn on all of those principles. So that’s why I’m here. For me it’s principles over politics.”

"We will never give up, and we shall endure because we live by that moral strength that we call grace... And I know that many of us today, we are worried about what we face. Sometimes our challenges, they just seem insurmountable. But here, together, at the crossroads of history, may this day be the change point!"

FROM AN INTERVIEW

Bradley: How do you think Dr. King would feel about this rally?

Palin: I hope that Dr. King would be so proud of us, as his niece Dr. Alveda King is very proud as a participant in this rally. This is sacred ground where we feel his spirit and can appreciate all of his efforts. He who so believed in equality and may we live up to his challenge.

Maggie Kahler Kudos to you and Glenn! You put on one classy event, didn't trash the "other event" like Al Sharpton trashed yours. Yes, it's time for us Christians to stand up for OUR God. The government has worked too hard to eradicate God from the United States. Bring Him back!

Sailing the Dream, the final day.

Ok folks, I have had a lot of demand for photos of pole dancing.  I got to tell you I worked on a new move as you will see in the photos below.

053You have all seen my classic move with one leg around the pole, I am an old hand at this move even Paul saw it when we were dancing together.

051Here we go as a prep for my newest dance move, I am loving this.

052

And here you have it, I jump on and slide down the pole, not bad for a sickly 73 year old.

And that all you get, we will be in port tomorrow morning around 6 AM should be on our way home by 8 AM, it has been fun and we did very well with the activities we choose to do.

Sailing the Dream, Day V

Yep, we are still doing this for you guys, it is so tough but you guys are lucky you have us willing to do it for you.  Such a hassle, we have to sleep on the ship, wake up and have someone bring us food, and then go into the Costa Maya to look around.  This is a very new port, the old one was destroyed by a hurricane a few years ago.

009Miss Bee is here just looking cute with our ship in the background.

010

Holy crap, what is that hanging in my face?

002

I have to admit, this is a great idea, you can have all the beer you want and never have to get up to pee……

Tomorrow, a fun day at sea, we love those.

Sailing The Dream, Day IV

Wow, what a nice day we had.  We were in Belize City and remained aboard ship while most of the people went ashore.  Starting with lunch, I read what Miss Bee said about the Captain carrying my drinks.  Actually, what happened Miss Bee was at the table and I went to the drink station to get two drinks.  The Captain saw me struggling a little and he came over and offered some help.  He is a very gracious gentleman.  He filled two glasses with lemonade and said he would carry them to my table.  I thanked him and when he sat our drinks down I praised the good job he did and told him if he is ever looking for work I knew a job he would be very good at.  He smiled and said you know, I am looking for other opportunities.   Oh, BTW, I did not know he was the Captain, I thought he was some old sailor in his gussied up dress whites.

006

After my lunch of linguini and Italian Sausages I tried out the put put course.  I must admit I was unable to finish all 19 holes but it was lots of fun.  I did have one hole in one.

047

You haven’t herd much about the flat boys, we enrolled them in towel animal making  class and they have just been having tons of fun.  Skeeze is on the back of his Elephant and Jete is on the nose of his Walrus.

034 I know el-capitan is super at carrying lemonade not so sure about driving this big boat.  He turned it around after entering the harbor and now has to back this big hugger in between those channel markers and up to the pier, what do you think, sounds like a challenge to me.

041 I tip my hat el-capitan, you are the man…….

Sailing the Dream, Day III

Here we are in Cozumel, we like port days also, you see we have been here so many times that we choose to stay on board, the ship is nice while most of the people are ashore.

We toured the ship and took a few photos, for example this is the miniature golf course on deck 12.  How cool is that?036

We had lunch in the Fresh Pasta Bar, this is excellent, you walk in, select what you want and the chef will prepare it for you.  I had linguine with Italian Sausage, what a treat.

029

Miss Bee in the Stake House, wow, what a meal, trust me folks, you cannot beat 5 star dining for $30.00.  Yep, I could have had dinner in the dining room for nothing but this is just so nice, we do it at least one time per cruise.

040

It got just a little bumpy during the night, makes you sleep better.  We will be in Belize City tomorrow, I expect us to stay on board ship again.

Yep, we stayed on board, I must have been dreaming about that linguini and Italian sausages, I had it for lunch again today.

Fun day at sea, day II

Ok folks, especially for you non–cruisers, I got to tell you a day at sea on a big cruise ship where there is someone to fulfill all your wants and wishes is just like no other day in your life.

002 This is a look at were we are going, can you believe the calm seas?

001

And this is where we have been, such a wonderful day, mid 80’s and calm.

011

I did practice my magic tricks at dinner, you know I have to be at the top of my game for the bloggers cruise.  This one worked out real well, I call it the “Disappearing Finger Trick”

Day III will find us in Cozumel, Mexico and the Stake House for dinner tonight, sounds like a winner to me…..

The Dream day 1

034

This is not our first time on the Dream.

001

Port Canaveral is a beautiful port, this is the view from our table for lunch on day one.

048

This is the Stake house restaurant with our friends Paul and Mary Lou, we have reservations for Tuesday night.  Eat you heart out Paul.

049

Today is a fun day at sea, and talk about calm seas.  We are between Key West and Cuba now and it was like this since we left Canaveral.

Well we had room service for breakfast and now we are off to some adventure.

I am having computer problems from sea, been trying to post this for two days.

Our home for the next 7 days……

carnival-dream-rendering

I know, this is a shame but someone has to do it so Miss Bee and I will be at Port Canaveral Saturday morning and boarding this beautiful ship for some fun in the sun.  This will be our second cruise on the Dream and we have the same cabin we had on our previous cruise.  We have another cruise planned for this ship with our family for the Christmas Cruise.

We will do some post from the ship, we are packed and the flat boys are all excited.

Do you miss him yet part II……….

Back on 8/10/10 I did a post DO YOU MISS HIM YET? which was made up of still photos of GWB and Miss Laura greeting returning troops at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.  This morning I found a video and would like to share it with you.

On the original post I had several comments but I would like to share two of them just to show a contrast.

Kanani said...

I was at the UFO at DFW the day after he was there. While those in charge knew they were coming, none of the volunteers were aware. It was a total surprise! They came in, did their thing, and left. No media, no speechifying, none of the "teachable moments" that our current President vainly indulges in. It was just two very grateful and gracious citizens supporting the men and women who serve.

Matt-Man said...

We had it so good back then...Two wars...high debt...lack of direction...Oh, Just like now. Nothing changes. Cheers!!

There is a question here, who is the jerk in the two comments, and who is the grateful American? (I will keep score)

It’s me again Jesus, I am ready now

The following is a repost form my post of May 10, 2010.  I did that post to honor a great guy who gave me strength to keep up the good fight when there was times it did not seem worthwhile.

Sadly, the world lost a great inspiration, Rod lost his latest fight with cancer.  He will, forever, remain as an inspiration for the old sarge.  God Speed my friend.

2 Timothy 4:7,8
7) I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8) Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

It’s Me Again, Jesus! (A repost from a friend)

Sherry left the following comment on my Mothers Day Post so I jumped over to her place to read the post she was talking about. The post was written by her brother, obviously a “superhero” who writes a column in a local newspaper. After reading her post I requested permission to repost on my blog, hopefully someone will read the post and be as encouraged by his words as I was, thank you Sherry…….

Blogger Sherry at EX Marks the Spot said...

Great pictures, Sarge. Give your Bee a hug for all of us.

Did you happen to read my post about my brother's battle with cancer? I posted it about two days ago on my blog. Thought you might find it interesting.

It’s Me Again, Jesus!

Rod at Christmas 2009 close up

Last week, careful readers will have noticed, Yours Truly skipped his weekly assignment of penning this little column, which is something I try to accomplish each Monday morning. (Careless readers may not have noticed, because the usual space was filled in with a “re-run” from months gone by… just like the TV networks do!)

Rod with guitar rod-laid-back rod-on-phone

It was the first time I missed my deadline in over three years. I do not have a good excuse.

I guess, if I was a “dream-up-excuses” sort of guy, I could come up [with] one. I was, after all, strapped down to an operating table, undergoing a bit of brain surgery.

But that’s really no excuse. I’ve undergone similar surgeries two other times in the last couple of years, and I managed to meet the deadline for my column both of those times! So no excuses. I’ll try to do better in the future, although there admittedly may be some new challenges ahead.

Back in August of 2008, when I first underwent surgery to remove a malignant brain tumor, I promised to keep you posted of my progress, much as my friend Jerry Fowler had done during his illness a couple of years earlier. He shared his personal battle with cancer each week, and helped a lot of people along the way.

I guess I’m just not as disciplined as Jerry was, because, try as I might, I can’t seem to work my health picture into my column but once or twice a year. There have, however, been some recent developments, and I thought I’d share them with you.

I won’t try to give you all the background on the melanoma that I was first diagnosed with in 1983, or the recurrence in the summer of 2008 that briefly impacted my communication skills. I will instead refer you to this column, which is now posted online as a blog at www.rodshealy.com. (Just go back to August, 2008, and you can read all about it.)

When we last updated my condition here (last November), I mentioned that I had chosen the treatment route of “clinical trials”… still-experimental treatments which have not yet been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Although the my first round of trials -- an experimental vaccine designed to boost my immune system -- officially showed no response, there is some evidence that a partial response was achieved. In other words, some success, perhaps.

While searching for the next clinical trial, however, I was delayed by what appears to be multiple new recurrences of the melanoma in various areas: several spots in the lungs, where we already knew there was at least one large tumor; nine lesions in the brain, which were treated by gamma-knife last Monday at MUSC; and a number of brand new melanoma tumors in areas which do not appear to threaten any organs.

A biopsy of the large tumor in the lung, however, which had tested positive for cancer last June, suddenly came back negative, just a couple weeks ago. Hence, the possible partial success, perhaps.

As of now, I am scheduled to begin a new round of clinical trials next week. I’ll try to keep you posted better than I have been doing.

In the meantime, I am blessed to have no real side effects or disabilities, and am able to continue to work my normal schedule… with the obvious exception of last Monday, when I missed my deadline.

It’s also a good time for me to reflect a bit.

Given my several brushes with cancer, my odds of still being here are not good. In 1983, I was given a 35% chance of surviving five years. In 2008, my odds of making it through were described as maybe one in a thousand. And the couple of recurrences since then have been…well, let’s just say alarming to the technicians reading my scans. (You can always see it in their eyes!)

Still, here I am, starting on my next streak of writing a column every week for three years without missing a single one. I hope.

There are a few things I’ve learned through these experiences of the last two years.

First, none of the medical professionals and researchers can tell us what makes these cures and treatments work sometimes and not work other times. They’re striving to find out, but they just don’t know.

Secondly, a lot of really smart people – doctors, scientists, researchers – seem to think the “power of prayer” has a lot to do with it. I’m glad, because I think it has everything to do with it. When word of my diagnosis was revealed two years ago, I was humbled by the number of prayer groups who helped me – friends and acquaintances, and total strangers alike. They prayed for me, and I assume that’s why I’m still here.

Although I’ve personally never stopped talking to Jesus about it, I do notice that our chats become a little more fervent and frequent each time I get a diagnosis with a new set of challenges. I’m praying as hard as I can, but I sure do appreciate those extra prayer-words from others (because yours might be the one that works!)

Rod black
and white

Thirdly, whatever my future holds is okay with me. It’s a great life, and I love this life, but I’ve certainly had my fair share of it -- probably more than my share -- so when my time comes, it comes. In my prayers, incidentally, I always address that exact point: I simply ask Jesus to use me as is His will. If that means going to Heaven sooner rather than later, then that’s what I’m ready for. After all, it’s not this life that really counts… it’s the next one. I believe. I am saved. And I am ready.

If I’m sounding a little more prayerful than usual in my column this week, I hope you’ll understand. Skipping my column last week gave me extra time to reflect on this week’s message… and I decided to talk to a larger audience this week.

The old sarge reflects on his illness………..

What am I talking about, after reading this post I have nothing to talk about. Rod, the author and obvious lover of life has inspired me to get out there and kick cancer in the ass, that is my job, that is my mission, and I will be back to tell you “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED”…….

PS: Anyone of you who would put in a little extra word to Jesus, I would appreciate it. You could be the one that makes me grow up to be just like Rod.
