This seems like a good way to start reconstructing my blog........
My family tree.....
How far can you go back, I find this stuff interesting. Our family name can be traced back to England around 1200 AD, Hugo of Country Northumberland. and Margery of Country Norfork.James was given a land grant in New Kent County Virginia in 1654, our name also appears in Mongomery County Virgina where Richard is listed as the owner of one slave.
My oldest known direct relative. Abslom, born in Virgina 10/7/1759. Married 3/22/1787 to Elizabeth Maness was born 2/7/1768.
Miss Elizabeth gave birth to 12 children: Elander, 6/9/1788, Jesse. 10/5/1791, Rebecca, 3/3/1794, Wilham, 4/1/1796, Richard, 3/1/1798, Absalom J. (my Great, Great, Great Grandfather) 9/15/1800, Sampson, 10/19/1803, Jefferson, 10/20/1808, Elizabeth, 9/29/1810, Minnie, 3/3/1818, Margaret, 9/16/1820, and Nana, 9/16/1822.
This information was extracted from census records.
I would like to Introduce you to Absalom J and his Wife Mary Jane Duncan, my Great, Great, Great Grandfather, he died in 1886.
The story goes that Abslom and Mary Jane with their family left Virginia going to Texas by wagon train. It was a hard trip and when they got into North East Georgia, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, they came upon a large valley, being tried of the travel they named it Texas Valley and settled there. It is still known as Texas Valley today. They gave birth to 9 children: Calloway, 1830, (my Great, Great Grandfather), Calvin C. 10/25/1833-4/7/1909, Adaline, 1837-8/29/1911, Abslom, 1840, Catherine, 1843, Mary, 1845, Nancy Jane, 1848, William C, 1854, Frances, 1/22/1857

Calloway is the first know military man in my family tree, he served in the war of Southern Independence. His military records indicate he was hospitalized in 1864 and died in 1865, there is no known record of where he was buried, he never came back from the war.
Sand Springs Baptist Church, built January 12, 1883, was lost in a fire some years later but was rebuilt on the original foundation. After the death of Calloway, Selena acquired a large farm in Texas Valley, she donated the land for Sandy Springs Baptist Church and her son William was the Pastor of the Church. Sandy Spring Baptist Church is there today, many of my family are buried there.

When Willie Mae died in the 1990's the farm reverted to the rest of the children, my father's 2.645% share went to me and my brother, after the courts got done with the mess we got about $2000.00 each. Legal fees ate up the rest.
George Walter married Julia Durmmond, 11/20/1904My Grandmother Julia died at age 93, 48 years after my Grandfather, she never stopped loving him.

I love family history and have quite a bit of genealogy for maternal/paternal lines in mine and Dick's family recorded in Family Tree Works. That's a lotta typing, but it sure preserves the records as I know them! Keep up the good work...xoxoxo

How wonderful that this is all researched and "written" down.
I know my mother's uncle use to be the town historian where my mother and father both grew up. Uncle Arthur traced the family back to the Mayflower, but I have a hard enough time remembering 2 generations back!
